Lupercalia was most likely celebrated all the way up to the 5th century, when Pope Gelasius officially declared February 14th as St. Valentine’s Day as he believed the fertility festival to be “un-Christian.” From that period on, St. Valentine’s Day was nothing more than a commemoration of the saint Valentine, having nothing to do with Saint Valentine is especially interesting to me. Being that he died in the year 269, it is tough for us to really know a lot about him but there are stories and legends of his life. This one in particular stuck out to me.
